Information and Entry Requirements

You will need 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above to include GCSE Science, GCSE P.E and GCSE English Language at Grade C or above. You will also need to attend an interview at College.

Living The Olympic And Paralympic Values

A Level

Physical Education

You will acquire an appreciation of topic areas including anatomy and physiology, acquiring movement skills and social-cultural studies relating to participation in physical activity. You will experience a wide variety of practical activities. Your writing and practical skills will develop and you will have the chance to develop your skills as an independent learner.

This course is suitable for students who enjoy:

Year 1 (AS Level)


Unit 1: Participation in Sport and Recreation
There will be a 1 hour written examination. You will study the development of active leisure and recreation, healthy lifestyle, effects of exercise and the development of competitive sport

Unit 2: The Critical Sports Performer
This is externally set, internally assessed and externally moderated. The unit is the practical unit where personal performance is studied and a study of sport local and nationally is undertaken.

Year 2 (A2 Level)


Unit 3: Preparation for Optimum Sports Performance
There will be a 2 hour examination. You will study physiological preparation, technical preparation, centres of excellence and technical support.

Unit 4: The Developing Sports Performer
This is externally set, internally assessed and externally moderated. It is the practical unit where personal performance is studied and a development plan is drawn up.

Future Options


You can apply to do a degree in a wide range of physical education and sports related studies. You can also apply for a job with training in the sports industry.
