You will study key concepts such as media language, media representations, media reception and media production across different areas and discover how media products are promoted across different platforms. You will also carry out cross-media studies such as broadcast or film fiction, documentary and hybrid forms, lifestyle, music, news or sport.
A2 students will further develop their theoretical and production skills as well as developing the research skills essential for future study. In Unit 3 there will be a rolling programme of two pre-set topics, with an emphasis on media theories, issues and debates. Students will also research a media area of their choice and produce a production linked to their findings, to reinforce the link between research and production in the media.
Unit 1: Investigating Media
There will be a 1 hour and 30minutes examination, plus 15 minutes reading/viewing time, which will be divided into two sections.
Unit 2: Creating Media
This unit is coursework as follows: two linked production pieces (taken from two of the three media platforms studied in Unit 1), plus a 1500 word evaluation on both production pieces.
Unit 3: Critical Perspectives
There will be a 1 hour and 30minutes examination (plus 15 minutes reading/viewing time) which will be divided into two sections.
Unit 4: Research and Production
This unit is coursework as follows: Critical Investigation (range of media forms) and a linked production piece (realised media artefact).
If you complete the course successfully you could move on to study for a degree or BTEC Higher National Diploma in related subjects. You could also go on to relevant employment.
