
This is a one year modular course with assessment throughout the year. As with all GCSEs, results will be given on a scale graded A* - G. There are 3 tiers of entry; in each tier there is a limited range of grades available: Higher - A* to C; Intermediate - B to E; and Foundation - D to G. Most students will be entered for the Intermediate tier but it may be possible to enter for a different tier with agreement from your tutor.
At all levels ability in Mathematics is an advantage. This course aims to develop your mathematical knowledge and written, oral and practical skills in a way which encourages confidence and provides satisfaction and enjoyment. It gives a firm foundation for further study of Mathematics and other disciplines such as science, engineering and business.

What will I learn on this course?
With GCSE Mathematics there will be many possible careers and Higher Education opportunities open to you. You will learn and use a wide variety of transferable skills during the course. Numerical skills are needed in almost every job: retailing, engineering, manufacturing, finance, nursing, leisure and tourism, social services, etc. A grade C or above in GCSE Mathematics is essential for AS/A Level Mathematics and for teacher training courses.
